Wellness Plan
What wellness plan do you have in place for yourself?
Coming from a recovering people pleaser, putting myself and my wellness first has been a bit of a struggle over the years, but I have gotten better at it. Even though I will be determined to go to school through almost anything, I know when I need to not go and call in. Everyone is human and we all get sick sometimes, so it's always okay to take a day off when you need it.
I have been doing my best with eating three meals in a day. Usually before school, I try to get something sustainable. Usually it's a bagel w/ cream cheese and a cup of coffee from my Keurig! I always try to pack something with a decent amount of protein in my lunch, just because that has been an important part of my meals. I also do my best to eat a good portion for dinner as well.
My sleep schedule has been very solid since I've started student teaching. (Shout-out to my melatonin gummies!) My watch helps track my health, including my sleep patterns and vitals, which is very helpful. It is super important that I stay healthy throughout this semester because of how crucial this experience will be for my future.
While physical health is important, I have also been keeping an eye on my mental health. I do my best to cut out time in my day to either see my family or call them, just so I can update them on how things are going. Because I only live a half hour away from Cedar Rapids, I like to spend some of my weekends going home especially to see my dogs! (I'll attach a photo because they're very cute) While this semester has been very busy for me with everything happening, I have learned a lot about myself and what a good wellness plan for a teacher would be.
I think it is great that you are recognizing when your body is telling you to take a break. I too have had difficulties with that in the past. My dogs have been a great boost of energy to come home to each day after school.
